Four Gates Capital has pursued a diverse set of strategies depending on the opportunities presented in the market and also the point in the real estate cycle the investment decision was being made in. These strategies include buy-fix-sell, opportunistically lending directly to investors, holding rentals, and participating in real estate syndications.
Ashish Patel is a founding member of Four Gates Capital. At Four Gates, Ashish leads marketing, investment sourcing, and real estate finance. Ashish holds a California Broker License. Prior to co-founding Four Gates, Ashish worked at Mizuho Securities and Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi helping to manage their alternative investment portfolio of various asset-backed fixed-income securities. Ashish has a BA in Economics from UC Berkeley and MS in Computational Finance from Carnegie Mellon. Ashish lives in Los Altos, CA with his wife, three children, and five chickens. He volunteers as the PTA Financial Secretary for their local elementary school and participates in weekly pick-up basketball.
Jay Patel, CPA is a founding member of Four Gates Capital. At Four Gates, Jay focuses on property/asset due diligence, valuation, tax and legal compliance, and risk management. Prior to co-founding Four Gates with Ashish, Jay worked at Deutsche Bank's fixed income trading team in New York and MF Analytics, a boutique structured credit analytics firm, in Cambridge, MA. Jay has a B.S in Mechanical Engineering and a B.A in South and Southeast Asian Studies from UC Berkeley, and an M.S. in Agricultural and Resource Economics from UC Davis. In his free time, he is an avid rock climber and has been practicing vipassana/insight meditation for over 10 years.
